Safe Night's Dimitrios (Jim) Mastoras authored a US DOJ COPS Office Toolkit called The Arlington Restaurant Initiative: A Nightlife Policing Strategy to Improve Safety and Economic Viability.
The Arlington Restaurant Initiative (ARI) was recognized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Observatory of Public Sector Innovation.

In early 2022, Safe Night, together with 24HourDallas, developed the safety standards for the Copper Star certification, which mirrored the successful ARI program in Arlington, Virginia. In addition, 24HourDallas released the name of their program, called the Good Neighbor Initiative (GNI).
In December 2021, Safe Night conducted a nightlife assessment of strategies and practices used by the City of Dallas to manage its nightlife areas. Safe Night also provided recommendations to city agencies and 24HourDallas to implement a problem-oriented approach, adopt a unified nightlife strategy, and create a full-time nightlife team. The report was provided to 24HourDallas and the City of Dallas leadership.
Safe Night delivered a four-day nightlife management training class for all stakeholders, Dallas agency staff, bar and restaurant owners, and community-based organizations. The Safe Night training introduced Dallas agency staff to new concepts focused on prioritizing prevention over enforcement, collaborative problem-solving, and building individual relationships with the community.
In April 2022, Safe Night provided nightlife management training, called A Safe Night Out, to staff from the City of Dallas, Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and 24HourDallas. The students completed a survey that overwhelmingly supports the multi-component nightlife model and the Proactive Alliance relationship-based approach. Lastly, students feel they will be able to apply the knowledge learned, have more resources to work with in the field and improve collaborative problem-solving.
In the summer of 2021, Responsibility.org recruited and sponsored Safe Night to bring
their nightlife management model, A Safe Night Out, to the City of Dallas, Texas. 24HourDallas in partnership with Safe Night created the Good Neighbor Initiative and the program is setting the standard for safety in the City of Dallas.

The Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC) has partnered with the City of Norfolk and Safe Night LLC to implement an initiative that will develop a unified municipal nightlife strategy, improve business operation standards, and enhance economic viability.
Safe Night conducted a nightlife assessment of strategies and practices used by the City of Norfolk to manage its nightlife areas. Safe Night also provided recommendations to city agencies and the Downtown Norfolk Council to implement a problem-oriented approach, adopt a unified nightlife strategy, and create a full-time nightlife multidisciplinary team.
The Downtown Norfolk Council and the City of Norfolk recruited Safe Night to bring A Safe Night Out to the city after a violent year in their downtown area.
Downtown Norfolk Council released the Gold Bar Norfolk restaurant and bar voluntary accreditation model. The program, developed in partnership with Safe Night aims to provide nightlife and entertainment venues with standards and employee policies that improve safety for patrons, staff, and the community.
Examples of nightlife venue standards in the Gold Bar Norfolk program include a focus on public safety expectations, identifying fraudulent identifications, intervening before conflict or aggression occurs, and Safe Night active bystander sexual assault intervention.
Safe Night provided A Safe Night Out nightlife management training to the City of Norfolk staff and business owners. Safe Night brought the Proactive Alliance relationship-based approach, showing city agencies how to develop a unified nightlife strategy, and how to support Downtown Norfolk Council's new bar and restaurant accreditation model.

Safe Night will then teach NYC agency staff how to support businesses that earn the accreditation, introduce a unified nightlife strategy, and shift to problem-solving over enforcement to enhance economic viability.

The Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce (GVCCC) in partnership with Safe Night and Pernod Ricard, is proud to introduce the Village Safe Spot Accreditation — a certification that recognizes bars, restaurants, and event venues committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable nightlife experience. Village Safe Spot empowers bars, restaurants, and clubs to formalize their practices through policy and training for nightlife employees.

In April 2022, the City of Austin and the Austin Police Department requested a proposal from Safe Night after seeing our work featured in a news story by KXAN Austin. In the proposal, Safe Night provided a blueprint for a nightlife management model, which includes a voluntary accreditation model for bars and restaurants to enhance bar and restaurant operating standards through policies and staff training.
While Safe Night did not collaborate on this initiative, we commend the City of Austin for implementing a proven nightlife management model and joining the growing list of cities prioritizing prevention and holistic approaches for managing complex nightlife areas.
Austin implements a voluntary nightlife bar and restaurant accreditation program that will focus on prevention, guidance, and support. Austin’s nightlife management program follows other successful nightlife management models in cities such as Arlington, VA; Norfolk, VA; and Dallas, TX. Learn more here.
